More Pics of Ragan+S

In 2000 we sadly lost part of our family, namely Ragan+S our Arabian stallion who Alan had purchased as a yearling.

Ragan was the founding sire of our Kintamani Stud and after 24 years with us, his presence is felt everywhere at home, especially in his progeny. Ragan had a reputation of producing sound conformation and fantastic legs as can be attested by the feats of his stock, especially Kintamni Fosta+CH+CH+CH who after an initial withdrawal from his first Shahzada at 5 years old [his first endurance ride], went on to not only complete the next 10 that he entered, he was mostly placed in the Top 5, with two wins to his credit. His temperament was also a testament to Ragan, as not only did he carry 6 different riders around Shahzada successfully, he carried our son Mark [then aged 8] around his trainers and three 80kms all willingly, but on a loose rein. *Separate story under Past endurance horses.

Ragan gained his SUPREME in the AAROM with Progeny, Performance and Working [one of the few stallions to gain it in this way - a working horse producing working horses]

Ragan was out there ‘DOING IT’ right from the word go, travelling to every show on the South Coast as a youngster and later to many Nationals, where he was regularly placed in harness, saddle, costume and progeny classes.

Ragan also attained many A class championships in harness and regularly placed under saddle and in hand, with the real winners coming from his early offspring.

Kintamani Rad also attained his Supreme AAROM in working [dressage] performance and halter, was five times champion ridden Arab gelding and once went on to Supreme Ridden Arabian at the National Capital show. Photograph under show horses. At this same show around the same years, Ragan’s daughters Anchors Shandarra Miss and Karabil Tintinara both were champion partbred mares under saddle. His grandson Pinosa Park Nicodemus was also a multi supreme under saddle and in hand ridden by Simon Kale.

Ragan’s endurance progeny include :

  • Kintamani Fosta—10 Shahzada + 3 Quilty and 4 x160ks and 8,500kms—separate story*

  • Kintamani Ragindi who was campaigned by the Counsell family of Batemans Bay. Ragindi was out of Janil Razindi and is now winning and placing in Bahrain after his very successful win at the NSW State Championships 160kms at Del Rio in 07. Wins and BC horse awards at The Rock, Tumbarumba, Bungendore in 2007 & 3rd & BC at Canberra and Tumbarumba 06.

  • Kintamani Charisma— Riz is still competing aged 18 with one ride left to gain her 5,000kms scroll; and there will be a story about her on the mare site*       Riz was successful at State Ride Manilla and St Albans 160kms and Tom Quilty in 2009, 2010 and 2011 as well as Shahzada in 2006.

  • Salamay Naomi a 5000kms+ mare including State 160km + Snowy 160 & Shahzada (5th in 05 & completed 06)

  • Kintamani Saphire – Yellow book mare 2009; BIG THREE in 2011 with NSW State Champs; Shahzada and SA Tom Quilty with owner/rider Cheryl Strachan

  • Kintamani Rose Maree campaigned by Louise McCormack, is a yellow book mare recently retired to our stud and foaled a lovely filly for McCormacks and now Kintamani.

  • Kintamani Bartholemew – 1st MW Sth Coast Zone 100kms 08; 1st Jnr Shahzada 80 and 2nd Jnr Batemans Bay 08.

  • Kintamani Maya – Blue book trainers and 80ks in 2011

  • Kintamani Jazz Man (is a grandson our of K.Fern by Ragan)  by OP Silver Shadow (out of successful Quilty mare Kintamani Fern) – The first Ragan grandson to compete and won the 09 Snowy Zone Champs 160kms junior and 2nd Junior at the 09 Shahzada.  Jazz Man has now joined Ragindi in Bahrain

Ragan himself had successfully completed 2,220kms in endurance rides including Shahzada and Quilty buckles; and 2,440kms in harness drives, including a 2nd place in Melbourne to Sydney and many drive/ride combos of between 160kms and 200kms; mini-marathons of 240kms etc. Giving him a total mileage of 4,660kms.

The weekend before his death was the Woodstock ride where his daughters Salamay Naomi and Salamay Mahala [bred by Ursula & Bernie Quinn] completed together, with Naomi successful at the 2000 Windeyer State Ride 160kms a few weeks later.

At the time of his death, he had 3 fillies on the ground, with 4 more foals due, 100% for his last season at 23 years.

Altogether Ragan produced 24 fillies and 16 colts and of these 40, 17 are successful endurance horses [10 successful at 160kms]; A further 9 were successful show horses.

Whilst on the coast, Ragan was regularly booked to take the bride to church and has been the only horse ever allowed access to Albatross Air base for a wedding, where he had paratroopers falling out of the sky around him.

Ragan is sadly missed as part of our everyday lives, an entertainer, a good mate and a great ride!

More Pics of Shou-Lin

'Shou-Lin' is pure class with an exceptional temperament. Shown as a two year old for 'A' Class wins & Top 10 in 2-3YO Colt 1994 Australian Championship.

Shou then went on to compete briefly in endurance gaining his Yellow book.

'Shou-Lin' combines the bloodlines of top endurance/performance Sires & Dams (Mustafa, Gai General, Tallangatta Muftakher, Royal Domino, Desert Pride & Shahzada ).

'Shou-Lin' is a BIG (just a tad under 15.3hh), BOLD, Athletic BAY with 'Classic Head', 'Type' and 'Short Coupling'.

Since arriving at Kintamani he has sired 3 very typy tall foals, photos elsewhere.
