The History of Kintamani Arabians

Kintamani Arabians was established by Alan at Cambewarra back in 1979 on the purchase of his first Arabian stallion RAGAN (Arowana Mamaragan+S) who went on to sire many excellent endurance horses, still competing today.  He gained his Supreme in the Arabian Roll of Merit for his Progeny, Performance and show excellence.

Helen joined Alan in 1984 after she had been competing in endurance for over 5 years and they married in 1985, moved to Cowra district in 1989.

Together they purchased the young Poldark stallion Oakeleigh Park Silver Shadow, out of the lovely Aethon mare Elusive (ex Cathay by Mustafa) who has produced excellent endurance stock along the old AETHON lines so popular in the sport today.

Both Alan and Helen have many years of experience breeding, showing and riding their Arabians, but have fully embraced the wonderful sport of endurance riding as a lifelong passion.

Between them they have 17 Tom Quilty buckles with Helen Top Ten in 1984 and Alan in both 1991 and 1998. The Lindsay family now proudly own 20 Quilty buckles, with Mark now two and Erika one. They have also 15 Shahzada 400km buckles between them, with Alan and Helen having won it on the same horse Kintamani Fosta, incidentally by Alan’s first stallion RAGAN. Kintamani Fosta went on to complete 10 Shahzada 400kms and still remains on the top of the Honours Roll at this ride. Erika completed on her homebred gelding Kintamani Silver Motif in 2006 riding with Alan on Kintamani Charisma, another Ragan girl.

Both Alan and Helen have won National point score and distance competitions several times and more recently Erika was National Junior in 2006.  Between them they have campaigned 6 distance horses being Bindo with 11,500kms; Fosta with 8,500kms; Voss with 6,000kms; Kintamani Charisma 5,000+ and Kintamani Silver Motif 5000+kms and Silver Shadow with 3,000+kms.

Both the Lindsay children have competed in endurance events, with Mark having competed as a Junior in 3 x 80kms events on Fosta when only 7 years old.  Mark began riding again in 2007 and was NSW Heavyweight of the Year in 2009 and 4th Nationally.  He has now won two Quilty buckle in 2009 at Tonimbuk as well as this the 50th Anniversary year, 2015.  He also completed two 160 at St Albans and many 120kms.  2011 saw Mark riding homebred Kintamani Charisma complete a very tough NSW State Championships at St Albans.

Erika began her career on Fosta as well in 2002 in an 80kms event, and now has taken out the National Point score for 2006 on her Kintamani Motif and Kintamani Charisma, successfully completing the Tom Quilty 160kms and Shahzada 400kms last year. In 2005 Erika and Motif won the Victorian State Championship 160kms. In 2007 Erika was very grateful to accept the January Sportsperson of the month and enjoyed thoroughly the awards ceremony with her friends and family.

Mark has now taken up riding his young stallion Kintamani Silver Marksman by OP Silver Shadow and out of the lovely Adbarina Aria by Chip Chase Kaiwanna, and has Silver Spot as grandsire on both sides of his great endurance pedigree. Marksman after only his 3 novice rides put in a fantastic effort to cover the very tough Tom Quilty this year as a 6yo with Mark very mindful of his youth.  He came through with flying colours for his first 160kms.

Marksman will now join the two senior stallions to stand at stud this year, as Silver scales back his duties and Shou Lin just covers his favourite old girls.

Cowra is very central to many endurance rides on the calendar and so the Lindsay’s passion to compete has not waned. It is a fantastic family sport where everyone competes equally and essentially is controlled by the veterinary team and not merely the whim of a judge. The campfire social life is a great Australian pastime and the lifelong bond one forms with ones horse over many miles on the track is to be treasured.
